Christchruch Tramways Restaurant TramsWhere do we board the Restaurant Tram?
Cathedral Junction Atrium, behind the Cathedral Square off Worcester Street.

What time does the Restaurant Tram depart?
7.30pm during the summer (Sept- May)
7.00pm during the winter (June-August)
We recommend you are at Cathedral Junction 10 minutes prior to departure time.

Can we get arrange pick up/drop off to and from our Hotel?
Unfortunately we are unable to arrange pick ups from your accommodation. Once you have finished your meal our tram driver will be happy to drop you off at the Tram Stop nearest your accommodation.

Can we BYO beverages?
We are a fully licensed restaurant. BYO is not available.

How long does the dining experience take?
Dinner usually takes 2 to 2.5 hours to complete. If you wish to depart the tram earlier, please inform your friendly wait staff.

Is the Restaurant Tram heated?
The Restaurant Tram is fully heated and for the hot summer months there is also air-conditioning onboard.

Are there rest room facilities onboard?
Yes, we have an onboard toilet. During the evening the Tram will rest for a few minutes in Cathedral Junction, allowing you time to straighten your legs and make use of their large rest room facilities.

We accept cash, Eftpos and all credit cards. A deposit is not required, however we do take credit card details to secure your booking. A cancellation fee of up to 25% will be charged to your card if cancellation occurs within 12 hours prior to your booking date.

How many people can be seated at one table?
We have tables of 2 and 4 available. A small aisle is located between these so a group of 5-6 can be seated quite close together.

Can we get a window seat?
Yes - every table offers great views of the city.

Can we charter the Restaurant Tram?
Yes, the Tram can be chartered for group bookings. You may charter the entire tram, (a maximum of 36 people) or book the front or rear section for smaller groups. A deposit is required, for more information please contact our Reservations Manager at tram@welcomeaboard.co.nz or 03 364 9921.

Christchurch TramwaysDo you cater for different dietary requirements?
We have vegetarian, dairy free and gluten free options onboard. If you have any dietary requirements please mention this to staff when making your booking.  Please note that for our High Teas during the Ellersie Flower show will wil not be able to offer a gluten free option.

Do I have to book a dinner package?
We do not have an A La Carte Menu. You may choose from one of our three delicious dinner packages.

Is there a Dress Code?
Smart casual is required.

Do you have a child menu?
Due to space restrictions we are unable to offer a specialised child’s menu. For children aged 5yrs and under, a discounted package rate is available and a smaller child’s portion will be served. Children over 5 must pay the full price.

What beverages are included in the Cathedral Dinner Package?
The Cathedral Package includes all house wines, beers and non-alcoholic drinks.

Do you supply Restaurant Tram Vouchers?
Yes! Restaurant Tram vouchers are an excellent gift idea. For more information please contact our Reservations Manager at tram@welcomeaboard.co.nz or 03 364 9921.

Can you board the tram in a wheelchair?
There is a wheelchair lift available and room for one wheelchair on the Restaurant Tram.

Are bookings required?
Our busy months are October – February and due to our limited capacity, (36 people) it is advisable to book early, to avoid disappointment.

We endeavour to keep the menu on the website as up to date as possible. The new winter menu is introduced in May/June. Our summer menu is made available in October/November.

Do you offer Lunch sittings?
Breakfast, Lunch and High Tea options are available for groups of over 20 people. For more information please contact our Reservations Manager at tram@welcomeaboard.co.nz or 03 364 9921.

Can you provide a Birthday cake?
For $50 we can provide a cake for any special occasion. If you prefer, we will put sprinkles on the table and candles on your dessert, at no extra cost. Simply inform our staff of your ‘special occasion’ upon booking.

Does the Restaurant Tram follow the same circuit as the day tram?
Yes, it follows the same circuit. Our Tram Driver will be happy to provide you with a short commentary while you are waiting for your meals.

Are we allowed to bring our own music?
We do not allow people to play their own music unless they have chartered the Restaurant Tram.
